iPad takes second amongst fastest growing Google searches

“ipad” ranked second amongst the fastest-rising search terms of 2010, says Google. The query lost to “chatroulette” only by a short margin; both beat celebrity searches for the likes of Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry. Two other prominent technology entries, Twitter and Facebook, ranked a distant eighth and 10th respectively.

Apple took the top two positions amongst searches in the consumer electronics category, with the first-place iPad being joined by the iPhone 4. Nokia also did well however, with the 5530 in third and the N900 in fifth. The HTC Evo 4G, an Android phone, was fourth; some other notable queries in the top 10 include “blackberry apps,” “duracell mygrid” and “otterbox.”

The iPad has likely benefited from the number of announcements made by Apple. The product was first revealed in January, and had separate American Wi-Fi and 3G launches in April. International rollouts, among other events, have helped to keep the tablet in the public spotlight. By contrast, the iPhone 4 and Evo 4G have only been available since June, and perhaps correspondingly received less press coverage.
